Corning, Inc. engages in the provision of glass for notebook computers, flat panel desktop monitors, display televisions, and other information display applications, carrier network and enterprise network products for the telecommunications industry, ceramic substrates for gasoline and diesel engines in automotive and heavy-duty vehicle markets, laboratory products for the scientific community and polymer products for biotechnology applications, optical materials for the semiconductor industry and the scientific community, and polycrystalline silicon products and other technologies. The company is headquartered in Corning, New York and currently employs 57,500 full-time employees. The firm operates through five segments: Optical Communications, Display Technologies, Specialty Materials, Environmental Technologies and Life Sciences. The Optical Communications segment manufactures carrier network and enterprise network components for the telecommunications industry. The Display Technologies segment manufactures glass substrates for flat panel liquid crystal displays and other high-performance display panels. Its Specialty Materials segment is engaged in manufacturing products that provide material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for customer needs. Its Environmental Technologies segment manufactures ceramic substrates and filters for emission control systems. Its Life Sciences segment manufactures glass and plastic labware, equipment, media, serum and reagents enabling workflow solutions for drug discovery and bioproduction.
